Shanique Syrena Pearson, 22, will appear in court next month after Radio 2 and Crimewatch presenter Mr Vine, 51, passed a video of his ride to work through Kensington on August 26 to the Metropolitan police. The footage, captured by cameras mounted on the front and back of Mr Vine’s bike, apparently shows a woman sounding the horn of the black Vauxhall, getting out of the car to confront Mr Vine and swearing repeatedly. The footage shows Mr Vine being “tail-gated” by the car as both head down a narrow car-lined street towards Kensington High Street. Scotland Yard confirmed that Pearson, a student, of Vauxhall, was charged on Tuesday with driving without reasonable consideration to other road users, failing to licence a vehicle and using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour. She has been bailed to appear at Hammersmith Magistrates’ Court on November 8. The footage was viewed more than half a million times online and sparked a debate about the safety of cycling in London. <<CLICK HERE>> for more. |

THE DEVON and Cornwall police officer in charge of roads policing has called for a law change to force drivers into giving cyclists more room. Chief inspector Adrian Leisk, head of roads policing, urged motorists to take more care overtaking after footage showed a series of near misses on country lanes. West Midlands Police have also launched a new initiative to actively target motorists who ignore Highway Code rules on overtaking cyclists. The operation, which was first trialled last month, will see police officers saddle up on some of the region’s busiest routes looking out for motorists who do not leave the required space when passing cyclists. The officers on bicycles will pass on details of any offending driver to in-car colleagues to intercept at a designated holding point, where they will be offered educational input on safe overtaking. Repeat offenders, or anyone deemed to have driven dangerously close to a cyclist, will be prosecuted and taken to court. |

It was a disappointing turn out for the 2016 Dartmoor Ghost with only 22 riders starting out on the event. Possible reasons for the low turnout could be a clash the Avalon 400Km and also other nearby night events that are now taking place on the same weekend. For those that did ride and complete the ride it was a fine moonlit ride, and the rain didn't start until 10am on Sunday morning. |

There is anger amongst the cycling community following the decision by Great Western Railway to make it compulsory to reserve bikes on their high speed trains. Restrictions mean that on many services it is already difficult to get a bike on a train with many trains restricting the numbers of bikes to as little as 2 or 3. Folding bikes can still be carried free on most train services. <<Petition HERE>> |

This years Devon Dirt event saw 418 riders enter. The route was comprised of two loops around Ashburton, returning to Bigpeaks and although the lanes were mainly dry, some deep wet muddy sections made for some involuntary swims, and a few mechanical failures, and in Goodstone Woods there were a couple of large fallen trees to negotiate.. The only injury was a broken wrist when a rider fell on the first section. The weather was ideal for the ride, a fiine sunny day for the ride with a cold brisk breeze, and all the finishers received a T-shirt, certificate and a sticker.. |
