The family ride in August was to Budleigh Salterton from Exmouth. Despite an awful forecast the ride went well, with time for lunch and swimming at the seaside. The ride returned through Otterton and some deserted lanes, and arrived back just bfore the rains came. Septembers ride was the poular granite way, and the riders had a good run to Lydford and back covering 22 miles, the longest ever ride for 7 year old Tom Brodie on his own bike. PICTURES SOON> |

Derek Gibbings and Ursula Malagon arrived safely at Lands End on 12th August, and Graham and Ben Brodie arrived there on 16th August. Both parties endured a mixed bag of weather, but had no major problems along the route. Derek and Ursula covered 1200 miles, and Graham and Ben 1090. The Brodies jaunt has raised over £2300 for charity and monies are still being donated. <<CLICK HERE>> for the End to End website. |

Another successful year for the TORPLEX and DEVON DELIGHT. Over 100 riders took part in this years events. The recent wet weather had almost dried out, however there were a few showers which unfortunatley contributed to a few spills, but thankfully no serious injuries. PICTURES SOON> |

June 2004 |
Almost a week on, and speculation continues as to whether the aerial attacks will continue this weekend. The idea of painting or sticking "eyes" onto helmets has been distributed. This seemingly bizzare bird behaviour is quite common in some parts of the world, and the "eye decoy" is said to work. North Devons Paul Dixon has featured heavily in the media, both locally and nationally this week, and there has been much interest in CTC and AUK . This weekends Time Trial, and the CTC Coast to Coast ride, have both been re-routed to avoid the area. <<CLICK HERE>> for BBC on-linestory also more RSPB information. |

Following on from the weekends incidents, the Buzzard near Holsworthy continues to attack cyclists. After media interest on Monday, Paul Dixon met the press up there and whilst riding he was attacked and suffered cuts to his head. he then rode with a helmet and was struck again. Linda Johnston was also attacked yesterday (Weds 9th) when she rode the Three Moors 300, and was shocked by the speed and force of the assault. RSPB and general advice seems to be to try painting or sticking eyes to the helmet if you wear one. |

Buzzard " Strikes" on the A3072. UPDATE 9/06: Apparently almost all the riders on the 300Km and 400Km rides were attacked, several suffered cuts to the head. Clearly in the short term this bird represents a signifcant hazard to cyclists. Riders on this weekends Coast to Coast are warned to take great care. |

Website now has it's own "Blogger" Users
may have noticed our new blogger on the intro page of the website. This
has been added to allow section officials and a few other people to put
notes or bits of news live to the site. As I'll be away for a month in
August and unable to do much in the way of updating, it should be a good
way for people to keep the information flowing. |

Local cyclists banned form Dartmoor "beauty" spot. (carbunkel?) After
a pleasant club ride to the 10 commandments stone near Buckland on Sunday
16th May, the ride returned through Manaton where there had been thoughts
of afternoon tea/refreshments, and chance to shelter from the heat. |

Hundreds take part in local charity event. Hundreds
of cyclists turned out in glorious sunshine, to take part in the and rganised
charity cycle event for the Torbay Heart appeal. Riders
had a choice of three rides, and easy 10 miles out to Chudleigh and back,
a 25 mile run up the Teign Valley, or a 33 mile loop taking them over
Docombe to Moretonhampstead and back. |

Norman Wells has been killed. We
are very shocked and sad to have to report the death of Norman Wells from
Exeter. We have very little information about the incident. Norman was until recently the secretary of Exeter "A"s and one of the sections regular riders for both "A" and coffee pot runs. He was one of Devon DA's key members for many years. The DA extends it's deepest sympathy to his wife Anne. |
