Devil!
Enter NOW or be damned!
(well dissapointed anyway!)
|
Local
Riders are strongly urged to enter NOW for Dartmor Devil 2002.
After
the massive success of the 2001 event, entries for 2002 are surpassing
all previous years and look set to hit a record.
BUT entries will still be limited to about 150 places, and there
will be dissapointment for those who enter too late.
Local and regular entrants are strongly urged to enter straight away as
places are filling up very quickly.
This year sees a different route and will almost certainly be harder than
2001 which proved to be a relatively easy run compared to other years.
2002 is the 10th Anniversary.

"Highwayman"
Production is hit by computer virus.
The September issue of "The Highwayman"
magazine has been hit by a computer virus.
When Jean Brierly returned from holiday, she opened her email, and what
is beleived to be the Klez virus, made the computer unuseable. Fortunately
the colour pages had been printed in advance, and with the help of an
old PC from Pete Luxton, the magazine has been printed. The PC has been
restored at some cost to the club.
Contributors are advised to check their emails, and look out for messages
with titles like " support" and
from "Kevin" - it could have gone
to anyone on the address list..
If you send stuff for the magazine, please make you "Subject"
line very specific, and detail any attachments to avoid things being deleted
before they are read.
If you don't already subscribe to our magazine do it now, renewals are
this month, and an annual sub. will save you money.

Devon
Treasure seekers day out.
39
people set out on the DA Treasure Hunt form Kingskerswell on Sunday 21st
July.
The weather was near perfect, sunny but not too hot and a cooling breeze.
Many families took part and took most of the day to get all the clues.
Some points chasers spent even longer going back and forth to ensure their
first place: Mike Hunting, Linda & David Johnston from Tavistock.
The Treasure was eventually found back at the start where Joyce Sharpe
had just aked over 100 scones whilst the riders were out, and everyone
had a cream tea.

Dartmoor National Park produce new "Cycling Hazard Report Cards"
Dartmor national Park, and Devon County Council have produced some new
"On-Road Cycling Hazard Report" cards.
The cards which are prepaid 2nd post to the Environment Dept. at Luccombe
House, County Hall, give the option to report things such as potholes,
bad/broken signage, damaged road edges etc.
It's a similar idea to the CTC pothole cards ( see campaigning section)
and users are encouraged to use these cards to help provide a better enviroment
for all road users on Dartmoor.

Good turnout for the Devon
Delight and Torplex.
100% success for all the riders who entered this years Devon Delight. 63
riders started and completed the event.
On the Torplex 200Km, 20 riders battled a strong headwind over Dartmoor,
which forced 2 retirements.
For the rest of the field, everyone was home by 2030, which was a good effort
considering the headwind.
The forecast rain held off until the event was over - next year is the big

New
cycle bridge under construction in Exeter.
A
new bridge is under construction which will allow cyclists and pedestrians
to cross both the Exe, and the flood channel, at the "Mill on the
Exe" by the weirs.
This will mean cyclists can gain easy access to the City Centre and St.Davids
area, without having to ride up to the busy level crossing at Exeter St.
Davids station, or negotiating the busy Exe bridges traffic system.
There is already a bridge across the flood relief channel, and the new
bridge will continue from here to the bank by the Mill On The Exe pub,
where a new crossing will assist people crossing Bonhay Road.
A
further improvement to the Exe cycle route is the new surfacing and realignment
of the track from Haven banks down to Marsh Barton. The track is now very
wide, and has a superb tarmac finish.
