WELCOME
TO THE 2008 DEVON DELIGHT 100Km.
Many people ride this event annualy, but it's an ideal event to try
out and have a go at riding an Audax.
This is know as an Audax "Populaire" - a short distance
ride at a leisurely pace.
The minimum speed of the event is 10kph (6.3mph), so with only two
significant climbs on the event it's well within the capability of
someone who rides a bike regularly but has not done any great distance.
If you are a fit regular rider looking for a challenge you should
really be doing the TORPLEX 200.
Historically the weather is usually good, often quite warm. Although
this is an easy ride you should still ensure that you carry spares,
food rations, and waterproofs. There are plenty of food stops along
the route including our own control with drinks and cakes at the halfway
point manned by friendly people, many even take to one of the local
hostelry's around lunchtime on the way home.
Your
route sheet will be comprehensive but you should use it in conjunction
with an Ordnance Survey map. Checkpoints and controls along the route
are there to make sure that you complete the course - it's not a race
there are no awards for the first back - finishing in good time and
in one piece is the objective. You
receive a Brevet Card which is stamped as you pass controls, - the
final completion stamp is at the finish, and we retain the card for
validation by AUK, and send it back to you later.
The event HQ is at the Newton Abbot & District Recreational Trust,
where there is parking, room to leave baggage, showers, toilets, a
bar, and we have some catering providing hot and cold drinks and sandwiches
and cakes throughout the afternoon and evening.
Our event partner is Devon County Council Travelwise
who have given us funding support.
